Poker Odds

We receive many questions on poker odds, and you can read about some of them and other typical poker dilemmas in our forum. This section explains, with examples, the odds of improving your hand on either the Turn card or the River. Player 2's cards are only displayed where they are relevant to the example.

Example Trips over Trips � Player 1 has a 4% chance of improving from this point, which equates to odds of 46:1.

Example Pocket Pair over Pocket Pair Player 1 has an 8% chance of improving from this point, which equates to odds of 23:1.

Example Same pair, worse kicker Player 1 has a 12.5% chance of improving from this point, which equates to odds of 15:1.

Example Inside Straight Draw. Player 1 has a 16.5% chance of making the draw from this point. Chance of catching one of four 9s is 11:1.

Example Middle Pair versus Top Pair. Player 1 has a 20% chance of improving his hand. Chance of catching one of two 4's or three Aces is 8:1.
